DEBT ARRANGEMENT SCHEME (DAS)

Does DAS affect my credit rating?

Yes. Being in a DPP is recorded on the DAS Register, which is a public register, and it will show on your credit file for six years from the start of the plan.

The DAS Register

The DAS Register is a public register maintained by the Accountant in Bankruptcy. Anyone can search it.

While your DPP is active, you appear on the register. When the DPP completes or is revoked, your entry is removed within a short period.

The credit file entry

DPPs are reported to credit reference agencies. The entry stays on your credit file for six years from the start date of the DPP.

During those six years, mainstream credit is difficult to obtain. Some lenders will consider DAS holders more favourably than IVA or bankruptcy holders (because DAS involves full repayment) but many treat it similarly.

Existing credit and bank accounts

Existing credit accounts included in the DPP will typically be closed by the lender. Overdrafts included in the DPP mean the account is often closed too.

Basic bank accounts remain available.

Mortgages and secured car finance continue as normal.
