DEBT ARRANGEMENT SCHEME (DAS)

Can I keep my home under DAS?

Yes. DAS does not affect homeownership. Your mortgage continues as a priority debt, and the DPP covers the unsecured debts you owe.

DAS and homeownership

DAS covers unsecured debts. Your mortgage is a secured debt against the property and is not in the DPP. Continue paying the mortgage as normal and the home is unaffected.

There is no equity release requirement in DAS (unlike Trust Deeds and IVAs). Any equity you build during the DPP stays with you.

Mortgage arrears

If you are behind on mortgage payments, those arrears sit outside the DPP as a priority. You negotiate directly with the mortgage lender — usually agreeing an arrears repayment plan alongside your ongoing mortgage.

Remortgaging during a DPP

Remortgaging is technically possible but difficult during a DPP. Most mainstream lenders decline based on the credit file entry. Specialist lenders may consider at higher rates.

Most DAS holders wait until after the DPP completes and the entry drops off.
