Credit cards in DROs
Credit card debt is unsecured and can be included in a DRO. When the DRO is granted, the lender cannot pursue the debt during the 12-month moratorium.
On discharge, the credit card debt is written off.
The credit card account will be closed by the lender on notification of the DRO.
Multiple cards
Multiple credit card balances can all be included in the same DRO, provided the total across all your debts is under £50,000.
Balance transfer cards, store cards, and credit-builder cards are all treated the same way.
Debts already at debt purchasers
If your credit card debt has been sold to a debt purchaser, the debt is still included in the DRO. The purchaser is the creditor and is bound by the DRO.
If you have a small live credit card balance
If you have a small balance on a card you use for regular spending, you can either include it in the DRO (in which case the account closes) or continue paying it separately if you can afford it.
For most DRO cases, all credit is closed to remove temptation and simplify the situation.
